Lavender Blends Inhaler Recipe

Lavender Blends Inhaler Recipe

Lavender is probably the most famous essential oil for relaxation and soothing nerves . . . if not the most famous essential oil hands down! That’s because it’s so safe and so good for a wide range of issues. Emotionally, it’s good for “calming the mind, comforting feelings and alleviating fears, while it is uplifting and revives the spirits.” (That’s from Salvatore Battaglia’s excellent book, The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy.) Lavender may be powerful, but it’s also very gentle, and it’s one of the oils I trust the most in blends for children. Here’s an Aromatherapy inhaler for kids (over five years old) who experience anxiety: Breathe and Be Calm for Children 2 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) 3 drops Cedarwood (Juniperus virginiana) 2 drops Tangerine (Citrus reticulata) Breathe and Be Calm for Big People 3 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) 6 drops Juniper berry (Juniperus communis) 6 drops Cypress (Cupressus...
Lavender Essential Oil: Versatile, Diverse, Essential

Lavender Essential Oil: Versatile, Diverse, Essential

“Lavender: the glory of aromatherapy, a mother queen to pacify and console, a cooling tonic relaxer and rescue remedy, a panacea of amazing amplitude, a multiple healer for the heart, the lungs, the digestive tract, a bestower of tranquility and peace…..” Dr. Malte Hozzel Versatile The amazing Lavender is one of the most versatile of essential oils. It sometimes seems as if there is nothing that Lavender can’t do! Lavender lifts you up when you are tired; it settles you down when you are anxious; it aids sleep; it relaxes the muscles; when used in a massage blend it balances and emphasizes the notes in other oils; it uplifts you when you are feeling down, and it soothes the skin. Added to all of this, True Lavender (Lavendula Angustifolia) is one of the safest essential oils, and one that you can put on the skin undiluted; always test patch first to make sure there isn’t a reaction. In fact, modern aromatherapy really began when Maurice Gattefosse, a French chemist, used pure Lavender oil on his burned hands after a laboratory explosion and noticed exceptionally quick and complete healing. There are many different species of lavender which produce variable essential oils that have very different constituents, qualities, and uses. Since we are Aromatherapist or lay people rather than academic botanists or gardeners let’s concern ourselves with those varieties that produce readily available essential oils: True lavender, Spike Lavender, Lavender Stoechas and Lavandin. Let’s Walk the Garden There are so many different types of Lavender to help with so many types of concerns, it can get confusing. To help you through...
Belly Cramp Relief

Belly Cramp Relief

We look forward all year to this very special time when we visit with friends and family and enjoy delicious treats and wonderful meals. It is so easy to overindulge and find ourselves missing out on the joy of the season. If this happens to you, here’s a very helpful blend for relieving abdominal cramps. The essential oils in this recipe are calming and work to effectively soothe spasms and cramping. Ingredients: 9 drops Bergamot  3 drops Lavender 2 drops Marjoram sweet  4 drops Chamomile Roman  1 ounce Jojoba or another carrier  Blend To blend, add the drops of essential oil to the carrier,  gently shake the capped bottle or stir if not in a bottle. Ahh, Relief Once blended, massage on to tummy in a clockwise motion or better yet, have someone else massage your tummy.  Why clockwise you may ask, it moves the way your intestines work; this can help relax the abdomen, which, in turn, aids digestion. Arthritis Pain A Case Study

Arthritis Pain A Case Study

Arthritis is a common inflammatory condition that causes pain and swelling in the joints.  I am often asked about essential oils that may help ease the pain.  Following is a case study of a client I saw recently.   Client  A woman, aged 51 years came seeking an alternative to painkillers to help reduce the pain from arthritis in her right shoulder and neck, which also seemed to move to the left on occasion. She is in good general health. Her M.D. had diagnosed her with the beginning of Osteoarthritis and wanted to prescribe her something for the pain, she isn’t keen on this being her first route so she is seeking the aid of some other Practitioners. She is a petite framed woman and possesses a very positive and outgoing character. She attempts to remain active. Most of the pain is experienced in bed at night when finding a comfortable position is challenging. In the morning, stiffness and pain are experienced in both rising and walking. Plan The client seemed open to adding massage therapy to her plan, I gave her several referrals to therapists who are trained in using Clinical aromatherapy and incorporate it into their massage practice. We smelled many oils that I felt would be beneficial and together we narrowed the selection to the following: Plai (Zingiber cassumunar): The anti-inflammatory potential of Plai is most significant, the Thai Institute have demonstrated that components of Plai are twice as potent as Diclofenac (Voltarol), a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). Black Pepper (Piper nigrum): It has wonderful analgesic and warming properties. Cantele (2014) cites it as one of the most...
